Top 2018 Winter Coat Trends for Women

Winter means one thing: layers! And what better way to layer up than in a snuggly coat or warm jacket?

Now is the time to wrap up in style in the season’s must-have coats. If you’re looking for inspired outerwear, here are some of the key trends to channel in winter ’18.

Top 2018 Winter Coat Trends for Women

Leopard

Leopard print has been popular for some time, however this season things have been ramped up a notch. The shows were packed with the animal print and we’ve seen it on trench styles at MaxMara as well as on double breasted, hip-skimming coats at Saint Laurent.

From muted nods to the trend to full-blown, attention-grabbing numbers, this is the one that will suit the bold and adventurous among us.

Heritage Prints

Channel your inner aristocrat in heritage prints. These oh-so sophisticated outerwear options featured tiny checks and dogtooth designs. But it is tweed that was seen on the runways and in the stores. Miu Miu stuck to a traditional tweed, while Prada added some vibrant orange to proceedings. Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs went full ‘80s, with huge collars and oversized sleeves.

Leather

Leather is a staple for winter. It’s the perfect combination of sensible practicality and effortless style, which is why it returns in a new guise each winter season.

For 2018, the leather coat is sleek and sultry, with trench coats like this from Belstaff dominating the catwalks. There was deep burgundy at Coach, dramatic macs at Nili Lotan and Koché’s maroon leather dress coat was to die for. If you’re planning on being a style maven this winter, leather is the way to go.

Puffer

The puffer is a longstanding favourite during the winter months and in 2018 it has undergone an update. This time round, they’re shunning the ’90s vibes and instead delivering a grown-up feel, with velvety, quilted pieces at Moncler and stylish belted options at Ienki Ienki.

Team your puffer with some tapered trousers or for additional style points, a leather pencil skirt, to mix up the seasonal trends and deliver a chic finish.

Arresting Checks and Trailblazing Tartans

While the heritage trend has smaller, sophisticated checks all sewn up, the brassier among us are rocking sassy, bold checks in colour palettes that clash with the typical muted tones of the winter season.

Things were brash at Marc Jacobs, as plastic-looking trench coats featured striking orange and white plaid checks over black, while Burberry couldn’t decide which tartan to run with, so there were red tartan arms clashed with navy blue panels.

There are plenty of styles to dip into this season, so get shopping and wrap yourself up!
