Fact 1: Broad-spectrum sunscreens are the best

There are two types of harmful rays included in UV radiation. The first ones are the Ultraviolet A (UVA) Rays which commonly cause premature aging of the skin and wrinkles. The second one is Ultraviolet B (UVB) Rays which are more dangerous than the previous ones, causing sunburns. Overexposure to both of them can cause skin cancer. Always try to choose sunscreen products labeled as “broad spectrum” because they help protect against the effects of both UVA and UVB rays.

Fact 2: Aim for a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF

Always pay attention to the sun protection factor (SPF) when buying sunscreen products. The SPF indicates how much protection against UV rays offers the product. Aim for products that have an SPF of at least 30. They can block abound 97%  of the harmful sun’s rays.

Fact 3: No sunscreen is waterproof or sweatproof

Do you remember the era of products labeled as waterproof? We can say that when it comes to sunscreen products, the era of waterproof and sweat-proof labeled products is over. Manufacturers no longer advertise the sunscreens as waterproof or sweatproof. Instead, they started labeling the products as water-resistant which means that a product is effective for up to 40 minutes in water, or very water-resistant, which means effectiveness for up to 80 minutes in water. The best is to reapply sunscreens every two hours, after getting out of the water, or after sweating.

Sunscreen is probably the most effective product against harmful UV rays. But, it is definitely the only one. There are many ways to reduce exposure to UV radiation. Fact 6: Sunscreen expires

One thing to pay attention to when buying sunscreen products is the expiration date. The FDA requires all sunscreens to retain their original strength for at least three years. That is why you should always pay attention to the expiration date. It is included on the label. Also, whenever you notice the visible color or consistency changes, it is a sign that the product should be disposed of.
